Habitat
for Humanity
In 1976,
Millard and Linda Fuller founded Habitat for Humanity International as
a nondenominational, ecumenical, Christian housing outreach. By 2005,
they had built their 200,000th home, providing shelter for more than
1,000,000 people worldwide. Now at work in 100 countries, somewhere in
the world every 26 minutes, a new Habitat home is completed—that’s
more than 20,000 new houses a year. More than two million volunteers
participate in the U.S. alone. 750 student campus volunteer groups now
operate throughout 25 countries to provide more than 3,000 communities
with shelter.
